James H. Shirey, Jr., 67, of Oelwein, Iowa, and formerly of Crossett, Arkansas, died Monday, December 1, 2014, at his home.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m., with Memorial Services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11 at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Arkansas.
James Henry Shirey, Jr. was born December 15, 1946, at Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of James Henry and Eleanor (Royal) Shirey, Sr. He graduated from High School in Arkansas. Jim proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On March 6, 1970, he was united in marriage to Bettye Jo Tipton at Lonoke, Arkansas. He was employed as a conductor for the AD and N Railroad in Crossett for 27 years. He attended the Baptist Church. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting hats and his dog, scooter.
James is survived by his wife, Bettye Shirey of Renwick; son, James Bradford of Crossett, Arkansas; daughter, Sheila Shirey (John) Dungan of Renwick; 4 grandchildren, Bradi Shirey of Monticello, Arkansas, Josh Lineberger of Crossett, Arkansas, Blake Gilliam of Renwick and Christian Giliam of Renwick; father, James Shirey, Sr. of Searcy, Arkansas; 2 brothers, Dalton (Barbara) Shirey of Hope, Arkansas and Richard Shirey of Little Rock, Arkansas; 4 sisters, Ella (Bob) Allison of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Aylene (Rick) Simpson of Carlisle, Arkansas, Elona (Jerry) Griffin of Searcy, Arkansas and Leo Tate of Lonoke, Arkansas; 7 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother.
