Betty Jean Simpson Smith, age 89, died August 31, 2015. She was born February 15, 1926. She was a member of the Palm Street Church of Christ, Lonoke.
She attended Harding College and graduated from Abilene Christian College.
Betty married Robert Smith on June 12, 1955. Betty loved to teach. At one time she was one of the best primary school teachers in the state of Arkansas. Her students loved Miss Betty. She later stepped away from teaching to raise her daughters.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Gertha Simpson; brother, Wilburn Simpson and sisters Allene Burlison and Lillian Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Robert Smith; daughters, Joanna Smith, Jackson, Tennessee, Mary Kay (Mike) Calvert, Kennesaw, Georgia, and Sue Ellen (Matt) Stevens, Katy, Texas ; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family woud like to extend a special thanks to the medical staff and support team at Springhill Baptist Hospital and also to Tanya Willis for the care and devotion she has shown Mama for the last three years.
Visitation, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2 at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. The service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Palm Street Church of Christ, Lonoke with committal services at 4:00 p.m. in Wilson Cemetery, Lewisville.
