Darrell Joseph Cox, 88, of Lonoke, Arkansas passed away at home Friday, April 19, 2024. Darrell was born March 17, 1936, to Arch and Esther Cox. He was a lifelong resident of Bayou Meto-Lonoke, Arkansas and a member of Bayou Meto Missionary Baptist Church. He was a row crop and fish farmer in the Lonoke area for 35 years. He is preceded in death by both his parents, Arch and Esther Cox; his loving wife of 57 years, Jessie Marie McClelland Cox; son, Randall “Randy” Joseph Cox; sisters, Frances Cox Evans and Betty Jean Baldwin. Darrell is survived by his daughter, Gina Cox Wiertelak (Jim “Grumpy”) of Lonoke; grandson, Joseph “Joey” Darrell Moran of Memphis, TN; granddaughters, Carrie (Vinnie) Vruno, Denise Wiertelak; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Isabella and PJ; dachshund granddaughters and protectors of their Poppaw, Tater and Tot; numerous other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 4:00pm at the Gina Cox Center at Lonoke High School. This will be a casual celebration-please wear your Jackrabbit or Razorback clothes! Plants and flowers are welcome but if you wish to make a donation instead in Darrell’s memory, please make them to Family Resources of Lonoke or the Wade Knox Childrens Advocacy Center of Lonoke.
