Dorothy Fread Stocks, 88, of Furlow, Arkansas went to meet the Lord Monday evening, August 20. She was born in St. Charles, Arkansas, August 17, 1930. She was the daughter of John and Wilma (Vernor) Fread of St. Charles, AR. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, E. M. (Martin) Stocks, sons Michael (Mike) and Joe Stocks and her granddaughter Heather. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Moody, and her grandson, Heath Stocks.
Dorothy loved life and was full of life herself. She seemed to always have a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye and was quick to laugh at herself. She could be ornery but was usually quick to forgive. She was an avid golfer and fisherman. In her younger years she played softball, too, and was always ready to start a game of some kind with her kids and their friends.
She was a lifetime member of Concord United Methodist Church, and served as song leader, helped with Bible School, and sat on the church council.
She was a fabulous cook and a spotless housekeeper, but she would drive a tractor or truck any time her husband called. She loved her kids beyond belief and was one of the spiritually strongest people you would ever meet. She struggled mightily when first one son and then a second son and granddaughter met untimely deaths, but she said she finally decided to turn her sorrow over to God and could go on living.
Services for Dorothy will include visitation at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke Thursday evening, August 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and celebration of her life at 2:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church in Furlow. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Concord Cemetery Fund can be sent to Karol DePriest, Secretary, Concord Cemetery Fund, 436 Furlow Loop, Lonoke, AR 72086.
