Little Rock

Ernestine “Tene” Wolfe Nichols, 89, of North Litte Rock, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024. Tene was born on November 22nd, 1934, in Helena, Arkansas. Her parents were Ernest Valentine Wolfe and Helen Gray Hogue. As a true daughter of the Delta, Tene grew up on a farm in the Wabash area of Phillips County.

Tene was a beloved wife, aunt, great aunt, and friend to many. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Hal Nichols, and her sister, Lorraine Cline. She is survived by her niece Cathy Bradshaw (Jerry), two nephews Chuck Cline (Jane), Ernest Cline (Karen) and a host of great nieces and nephews whom she adored.

She graduated from Central High School in Helena where she formed a forever sisterhood of dear friends affectionately known as the “Valentines,” or the original Ya-Yas. Tene attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where she found another beloved sisterhood, the Chi Omegas. Tene loved her friends and maintained these childhood bonds throughout her life.

An avid learner, she earned several degrees, including two in nursing. Her thirst for knowledge did not stop there; she also dedicated herself to curating personalized news clippings for people on any subject that piqued their interest. Her support for other’s activities made an impression on all who knew her.

With a love for the arts, Tene had a passion for painting, classical music, and literature. She also loved to feed people, especially nurses, when any family member was in the hospital. Tene will be remembered for her boundless love, her unwavering support, and her beautiful spirit that touched the lives of so many.

Heartful gratitude to long-time caregiver and special friend, Cindy Montgomery, who has spent the past decade dedicated to Tene’s comfort and well-being.

A graveside service will be held on September 7th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena. In lieu of flowers, Tene requested donations be made to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra’s E. Lee Ronnel Music Academy, or another charity of your choice.
