Gregory D. Horton, age 39, passed away August 14, 2014 in Kansas City, MO, his home for the past 12 years. He was born August 30, 1974, in Longview, TX, to Burnis D. and Charlotte Thomason Horton, both natives of Lonoke, AR. He was preceded in death by his mother in 2008 and his sister, Lisa M. Horton, in 2009. His grandparents were Robert and Susie Horton, and Jeff and Sally Thomason, all of the Lonoke area. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Sue Ellen, of La Vernia, TX and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Greg graduated from North Richland Hills High School, near Fort Worth, TX, in 1992, then moved with his family to Cabot, AR. He attended Arkansas State University, Beebe, AR; Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA; and the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. During and after college he worked in retail and in what was then his passion, theater, in the Little Rock, AR, area. In 2002, Greg moved to Kansas City and spent the next ten years as a ballroom dance instructor, the favorite part of his career. He is known and loved by many in that area, and would still be wearing out dance shoes with them had his health not forced him to retire.
The Memorial Service will take place at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2014, at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke. Visitation will begin in the chapel at 10 a.m. Greg’s ashes will be scattered near his favorite places in the Kansas City area and placed in his family’s plot at the Lonoke Cemetery. A separate celebration of Greg’s life will be held in Kansas City in the very near future.
Greg and his sister were born with Cystic Fibrosis, and each of them spent their 40 years on this earth battling that disease while unwaveringly pursuing their dreams. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the charity of your choice. www.boydfuneralhome.net.
