Guy Verser Mitchell, 78, of Lonoke passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, due to complications from diabetes. He was born August 28, 1934 to Eulan Guy Mitchell and Evelyn Verser Mitchell Hauk. Guy’s father died before he was born. A few years later, Evelyn married Lawrence Hauk. Lawrence became the father Guy had never known and generated a farming passion that Guy grew to love.
Guy attended school at Fairview and Lonoke in Lonoke County. In his high school years, he attended Subiaco Academy from which he graduated with many lifelong friends. He was honored with being awarded “The Outstanding Character” award. He earned the recognition of being an outstanding football player and was offered several college scholarships. He chose, instead, to return to Lonoke and Prairie counties to pursue a farming career. Guy became a successful farmer and was selected as “The Farm Family” of Prairie County in 1964.
Guy became a Christian at an early age and his life exemplified that. He was a Deacon at The First Baptist Church in Des Arc where he raised his family. Later, he moved to Lonoke and became a member of the Lonoke Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and was afforded the opportunity to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Hermitage AC Hunting Club since 1956 and was active until 2 years ago. He was also a 50 year 32nd Degree Mason.
On September 17, 1982 he married Phyllis Rainwater Davis, who survives him. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyn Hauk; sons, Scott Mitchell(Rita), Neal Mitchell(Julie), Wade Mitchell; step-sons, Mark Davis, Scott Davis; grandchildren,
Drew(Audrey), Luke, Carrie and Brooklynn. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Lawrence Hauk.
Visitation will be at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke on Monday, March 18, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be on March 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lonoke Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Brownsville Cemetery.
