Jack Wheat

Jack Wright Wheat, 81, of Lonoke, AR went to be with his Lord on June 10, 2019.  He shared 61 years of marriage to his wife Vada Carole Wheat with whom he is now reunited. He was a resident of Lonoke and enjoyed a career as a farmer raising fish, cattle, rice, beans, wheat and oats.

Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, friend, colleague, and brother in Christ.  He was a member of the Lonoke Apostolic Church and spent decades of his life as a public servant to the community and people of Lonoke.  He served as mayor of Lonoke for two terms, alderman for 13 years and volunteered as a fireman for the Lonoke Fire Department for 32 years.  Much of that time he spent as fire chief.  Jack was loved and respected by his family, friends, and coworkers.  We will always remember him as a strong, confident, Christian man who was always present and willing to help.  Jack enjoyed hunting, watching cowboy and cooking shows, spending time with his family and friends, traveling and going to church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vada Carole Wheat, his parents Thomas Walton Wheat Sr. and Ruby Lois Wheat.  His brother Thomas Walton “Tonky” Wheat Jr., sister Rita Ann Sutherlin and sister Mary Lois Tharp.  Among those left to cherish his memory include sons Jack Wright Wheat II and William Todd Wheat (Frances), his two brother-in-law’s Bill and J.B. Ketchum (Robyn), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He drew strength and happiness from having his family near during the last days of his life.

The visitation will be at Boyd Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 12 at 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Lonoke Apostolic Church, 421 Eagle St. in Lonoke, Arkansas.  Interment will follow at Lonoke Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jack Wright Wheat to Lonoke Apostolic Church, P.O.
