Jerry F. “Jake” Brumett Sr., 93, of Lonoke, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. Born on October 24, 1931, Jake was a lifelong resident of Lonoke County. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community leader. His legacy of service, kindness, and generosity touched countless lives.
Jake was a proud Navy veteran, serving on The USS Bataan aircraft carrier with his brother Jude during the Korean War. His commitment to his community was evident in his long list of service roles, including serving as a Lonoke City Alderman, volunteer Fire Chief, the Masonic Lodge, and his church as a lifelong Methodist. As a farmer and outdoorsman, his hands were always busy, creating, fixing, or serving.
He began his career in Lonoke by starting Brumett Flying Services, a crop dusting service for local farmers. He then joined his dad and brother farming in the Lonoke area. He ended his work career doing home construction and handyman services. Jake built a reputation for quality work and a strong work ethic. His warmth and integrity left an indelible mark on the people of Lonoke and beyond.
Jake was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Lawanda; his parents, Allen and Minnie Brumett; and his brothers, infant William Clay “WC,” Joe (Dolly), and Jude (Betty Sue).
He is survived by his loving wife, Carlene; his three children: Yvonne, Pam (Michael) Fox, and Jerry Jr. “Buddy” (Gale); and his 3 step daughters, Sondra, Teresa, and Debra. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren / great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Arkansas Hospice, particularly Nurse Sara Allen, for their exceptional care during Jake’s final days.
Memorial service will be held at Boyd Funeral Home, in Lonoke, Arkansas, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Pastor David Teem and Pastor Jimmy Wallace will be officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Leroy Akridge, Don Cook, Bill Lassiter, Jim Skillern, and George Tidwell.
