John Thomas Gautney, Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Gautney; two sons, Richard Gautney and wife Karen of Lonoke and John Gautney, Jr. and wife Faith of Benton; three granddaughters, Brandi (Parker) Cordell of Lonoke, Erin (Cody) Kindy of Little Rock and Emily Gautney of Benton; six great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; brother, Danny (Jane) Gautney of Lonoke and a sister Linda (Troy) Stogsdill of Cabot.
J.T. as he was lovingly referred to by many, served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954 aboard the U.S.S. Bairoko. Later, he worked in the concrete industry until he retired at the age of 57. Upon retirement, he could be found working in his garden tending to his prize winning peppers and tomatoes, in the outdoors hunting and fishing, or under his favorite shade tree enjoying a cold drink and telling stories of days gone by.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at New Testament Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Concord Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.
