Michael Ladon Lucas, 68, returned to his heavenly home on April 7th, 2015. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Michael was born to the late Clarence and Macel Lucas, a nurse’s aide and a colonial baker respectively, in Kalamazoo, Michigan on February 4th, 1947. He was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He was a devoted brother to his late brother, Walter Lee, who died of Cystic Fibrosis at 19 years old. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1965, attended State Teacher’s College (UCA) and moved on to attend Central Baptist College after he surrendered to preach.
Michael was blessed with a loving family. He married his best friend, Danice Hanks, on March 27th, 1970 in Violet Hill, Arkansas. Michael helped raise his two daughters with patience, discipline and humility. He taught them to love the Lord and to give with an open heart through his years as a Baptist Minister in Arkansas and Kansas. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them in their Christian faith.
Michael was a servant and educator at heart. He was full of life, laughter, and always had time to tell you a story. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Michael is survived by his wife, Danice; his children Lucinda Munnerlyn of Hazen, Arkansas and Jay & Jessica Chipman of Hot Springs, Arkansas; his grandchildren Jonathan & Rebecca Munnerlyn and Hayden, Gracie & Ava Chipman; and his honorary brother J.W. Montague. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Macel Lucas of Cabot, Arkansas; and his brother, Walter Lucas of North Little Rock, Arkansas.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Michael’s celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 10 at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Michael will be buried at Pine Crest Cemetery for a private, family affair. Brother Russell Rhodes will officiate the service. The family is grateful for all friends and family that have sent their prayers and condolences. They will gladly accept photos and memories at www.boydfuneralhome.net.
