Robert Crittenden Smith, age 95, of Lonoke died February 7, 2019. He was born April 4, 1923 in Lewisville, AR. Robert grew up in Lewisville where he attended school and graduated from Lewisville High School. Robert served in the Army with the 515th Field Artillery Battalion and in Europe during WWII. After coming home from the war, he began farming in Lafeyette County. He married Betty Simspon in 1955. They moved to Lonoke County in 1966 where he farmed until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Simpson Smith; parents, George and Laura Owens Smith; brothers, George Smith, Garland Smith and Doyle Smith; sisters Pauline Foster and Lucy Mae Dorough.
He is survived by his sister Helen Jackson of Texarkana; daughters, Joanna Smith, Mary Kay (Mike) Calvert and Sue Ellen (Matt) Stevens; five grandchildren, Timothy (Anna) Calvert, Kaleigh (Ryan) McLane, Andrew (Raquel) Calvert, Faith Calvert, and Lauren (Trevor) Moon, six great-grandchildren, Jon McLane, Matt McLane, Abi McLane, Jensen Calvert, Addison Moon and Grant Moon, and many nieces and nephews.
He was a faithful member of the Palm Street Church of Christ in Lonoke for fifty-three years, serving as a song leader, deacon and elder.
The family requests memorials be made to Southern Christian Children’s Home, PO Box 649, Morrilton, AR 72110 in his honor.
