Ronald Allen “Ray” Richard, 86, of Lonoke, Arkansas, passed away on June 1, 2024. He was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma to the late Leo and Annie Richard, the youngest of three sons. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Doyle Richard and Louie Gene Richard. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Nona, his daughter Staci Cox of Lonoke, his granddaughter Carli Cox (Ethan Boyce) of Little Rock, and his much loved nephews and niece, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Ray grew up in Sulphur, Oklahoma, on his family’s ranch. He graduated from Sulphur High School, in Sulphur, Oklahoma in 1956, where he played basketball and ran track. He then attended East Central University, in Ada, Oklahoma for biology, while serving in the Oklahoma National Guard. Ray was a fish culturist and farmer in the Lonoke area for over 40 years. He worked at The University of Oklahoma assisting with fisheries research, and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, before coming to Lonoke to work at I F Anderson Farms, and later F&L Fish Farm, and Anderson Brothers Fisheries. He also bought and developed his own land and ponds, creating R&R Fish Farm.
His hobbies were numerous and varied. He was an avid bow hunter, spending many, many happy years hunting with friends here in Arkansas and Colorado. He loved trout fishing on the White and Little Red Rivers and spent many years going with his brother, nephew, and great-nephews twice a year for long weekends on the river. He enjoyed making knives and working with leather and he was skilled with both. When he wasn’t working, hunting, fishing, or creating something, he loved spending time at Oaklawn and watching sports. He also supported his cherished daughter and granddaughter in their many activities and endeavors.
A combined visitation/memorial will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 pm, at Boyd Funeral Home, in Lonoke, Arkansas, with graveside services following at Sunset Memorial Gardens, in Lonoke.
