Rubye Henderson Young, formerly of Carlisle, died on January 15, 2018 just three days before her 91st birthday. She was born to Walter and Nora Smith Henderson of Lonoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen, her parents and sisters, Nellie Engel, Alva Lee Choate and brothers, Walter and Roy Henderson. Survivors are daughter, Sue Young Buffalo (Dr. Doug), grandchildren, Shawn Ironside (Dr. Brett) and Nolen Buffalo (Sarah) and great grandchild Lydia Brett Ironside. Her love for her family was the most important thing in her life.
When Susie started school, Rubye was a room mother throughout elementary school. She did everything she could to make life fun for Susie. One year at Halloween, she dressed as a witch, including a mask, and looked so real her own child did not recognize her. She loved her grandchildren and ultimately, her great grandchild with the same enthusiasm and devotion.
Rubye had many interests throughout her life. She loved to fish. She and Nolen spent many hours in a boat fishing with Susie in a lifejacket sitting in the bottom of the boat. She was an extremely talented, self-taught musician. She loved to find others to get together and spend an evening “jamming” and singing.
Rubye never had a lazy bone in her body. Her home was spotless. On any given day, she might paint a room or change the color of her cabinets. All the while, preparing a full dinner for Susie and Nolen. At one time, she owned a “Dairy Bar”. She enjoyed seeing people come in and serving good food. Her last job was at Remington Arms. She was very proud of being able to retire with benefits, including health benefits. She took great pride in the fact that she was financially able to take care of herself. Rubye will be remembered and missed for many things. Perhaps, her wonderful crescent dinner rolls at family gatherings will be missed the most.
