Tommie Lyle Crane

Tommie Lyle Crane passed away August 1, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on January 4, 1930, in Carlisle, Arkansas, to Sadie Belle Rose and Alonzo Scott Crane Jr.

At an early age, Tommie left school to work as a farmhand until age 17 when he joined the United States Army and was sent overseas to fight in the Korean War, where he earned a Bronze Service Star. He became a certified electrician and climbed three ranks before his Honorable discharge in 1955. In 1966, Tommie met the love of his life, Ruby May Arnett and they married and merged their families. They moved to the Hamilton community where they spent the next 40 years happily married until Ruby's death in 2006. During those years together they enjoyed going to church, gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, and traveling with family and friends. Tommie was a Freemason of the Masonic Brotherhood, proudly for many years. He was presented a certificate honoring 50 years of dedicated service at Carlisle Lodge Number 587.

Tommie Lyle Crane is known for his story telling of his true-life experiences. His war stories about Korea and Panama were so fascinating. He was an impressive cook. Even at 94 he took good care of his home and yard. He cherished the time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren. Tommie will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories passed down and his wisdom and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Tommie is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Mae Arnett Crane and his son Billy Lee (Joey) Davenport, Jr. His parents Sadie Belle Rose and Alonzo Scott Crane Jr., one brother Willie Eugene Crane. Three sisters, Violet Ray and Molly Ray Crane, Linda Whitehead and brother, Albert Lee Whitehead.

Tommie will be missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect and cherished memories with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Jackson and Son-in-Law Larry Jackson of Broken Arrow, OK. One brother, Lewis R. Crane, and wife Violet (Vi) Jean Shelton Crane of Conway and a sister, Mary Lou Crane Murray and her husband, Earl Murray of Florence, South Carolina. Five Grandchildren, Brian Lee Davenport and Becky Woods, Robert W. Walker, Jr., John Lyle Walker and Wendy Jean Walker. Ten Great Grandchildren, Wyatt, Wesley, Reese and Ruby Walker, Natalie Spencer, Christian Simon, Chance and Mya Felton and Trevor Woods. And 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren and numerous Nieces, Nephews, and cousins.

A service to honor Tommie's life will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the Hamilton Baptist Church, Hamilton Loop, Carlisle, AR 72024. Visitation is 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Tommie will be laid to rest at the Hamilton Cemetery, Arrangements are at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke, AR (501) 676-2375.
